House of Representatives Demands Rescue of Abducted Ekiti Worshippers, Relief for Karim Lamido Violence Victims
Abuja, Nigeria – June 4, 2026

The House of Representatives has called for the immediate rescue of worshippers abducted in Ekiti State and urgent humanitarian assistance for victims of the recent communal violence in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The resolutions were adopted during plenary on Wednesday following the consideration of two Matters of Urgent Public Importance addressing growing security and humanitarian concerns across the country.

Lawmakers strongly condemned the abduction of several worshippers during an open-air Christian crusade in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, which occurred on April 28, 2026.
The House urged the Nigeria Police Force, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to intensify coordinated rescue operations to secure the immediate release of all victims, including women, children, and elderly persons.

Members also called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the attack are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The House also expressed concern over renewed violence between the Karinjo and Wurkun communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The conflict reportedly resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of many residents, creating a humanitarian crisis in the affected communities.

To address the situation, lawmakers urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief materials to displaced families and affected residents.

The House further called on the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) to provide temporary shelter, rehabilitation support, and other forms of assistance to victims.

Commitment to Citizens' Welfare
The resolutions highlight the House of Representatives' commitment to responding swiftly to security challenges and humanitarian emergencies across the country while ensuring the protection and welfare of affected citizens.

Lawmakers emphasized the need for stronger security measures and coordinated intervention efforts to prevent further violence and safeguard vulnerable communities nationwide.
