FG Clarifies: No Final Decision Yet on Replacing NYSC Khaki with Adire Uniform

The Federal Government has clarified that no final decision has been taken to replace the iconic khaki uniform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with locally produced Adire fabric.

The clarification follows widespread media reports suggesting that the government had concluded plans to phase out the traditional khaki uniform in favour of Adire as part of efforts to promote Nigeria's indigenous textile industry.

According to the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, discussions on the proposal are still at the consultation stage, and the government has not approved any policy changing the official NYSC uniform.

The ministry explained that while the use of Adire was presented as one of several ideas aimed at encouraging local manufacturing, creating jobs, and supporting Nigeria's creative and textile sectors, the proposal has not received final approval.

The clarification comes just days after reports sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with many expressing support for promoting locally made fabrics, while others argued that the NYSC khaki uniform remains an important national symbol that should be preserved.

Government officials urged members of the public to disregard claims that the khaki uniform has already been replaced, stressing that any official decision would be communicated through the appropriate government channels.

For now, prospective and serving corps members are expected to continue using the existing NYSC uniforms until any formal policy is announced.
