Nigeria's New Soldiers Ready for Battle as COAS Issues Tough Security Charge

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly trained soldiers of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake of the Nigerian Army to be decisive and courageous in confronting terrorists, insurgents, and other criminal elements threatening the nation's security, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and respect for human rights.

General Shaibu gave the charge on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade of the recruits at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Addressing the newly inducted soldiers, the Army Chief emphasized that they are entering military service at a critical period when Nigeria continues to battle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges. He noted that the rigorous military training they received, including specialized instruction in Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations, has adequately prepared them for deployment to operational theatres across the country.

According to him, the Nigerian Army remains determined to deny terrorists and criminal groups any safe haven, stressing that the new recruits will play a key role in ongoing military offensives aimed at restoring peace and stability nationwide.

However, Lieutenant General Shaibu reminded the soldiers that military operations must always be conducted within the framework of the Rules of Engagement and the Law of Armed Conflict. He urged them to uphold discipline, integrity, and professionalism in all circumstances, while protecting the rights of civilians during operations.

The Army Chief also highlighted the continued support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in strengthening the operational capacity and combat readiness of the military.

He said Nigerians expect the new soldiers to demonstrate unwavering loyalty to the Constitution, operational excellence, and a strong commitment to defending the nation's territorial integrity.

General Shaibu further cautioned the recruits against the misuse of social media, warning that unauthorized disclosure of military information and unprofessional online conduct could compromise operational security and undermine efforts to defeat insecurity.

Reaffirming the Nigerian Army's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the COAS assured Nigerians that the newly graduated soldiers would significantly strengthen ongoing operations and contribute to achieving lasting peace, stability, and security across the country.

The Passing Out Parade marks the successful completion of military training by the 90 Regular Recruit Intake and their formal induction into the ranks of the Nigerian Army.
