Troops Rescue Late General Rabe Abubakar's Wife From Bandits

In a significant breakthrough in Nigeria's fight against banditry, troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, the wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, weeks after she was abducted alongside her husband.

According to a statement issued by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), troops under Operation FASAN YAMMA intensified search-and-rescue operations targeting the criminal group responsible for the abduction.

During sustained military offensives around Tunga Village, troops made contact with the bandits. Under intense pressure from advancing forces, the kidnappers abandoned Mrs. Abubakar after shooting her and fled the scene.

She was immediately evacuated by the military and taken to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria also assured the public that all necessary support is being provided to her family.

Mrs. Amina Abubakar and her husband, the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, were abducted by bandits several weeks ago.

Major General Rabe Abubakar later died while in captivity, sparking national outrage and renewed concerns over the worsening insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria.

Operation FASAN YAMMA has remained one of the military's major operations aimed at combating banditry and terrorism across the North-West region.

The successful rescue offers a rare moment of hope amid Nigeria's persistent security challenges.

It demonstrates the military's determination to recover kidnapped victims and pursue criminal elements despite difficult operational conditions.

The development may also provide some comfort to families affected by similar tragedies and reinforce public confidence in ongoing security operations.

Many Nigerians have expressed relief over Mrs. Abubakar's rescue while mourning the loss of her husband.

Some citizens praised the efforts of the troops involved in the operation, describing the rescue as heroic.

Others called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent future abductions and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Mrs. Abubakar's rescue highlights both the resilience of Nigeria's security forces and the painful human cost of insecurity.

While this operation ended with a life saved, it also serves as a reminder that lasting peace requires stronger intelligence gathering, community cooperation, improved security strategies, and sustained action against criminal networks.

For Nigeria, the incident underscores the urgent need to strengthen national security and protect vulnerable communities from bandit attacks.

Globally, it reflects the broader challenge many nations face in combating armed criminal groups and protecting civilians caught in conflict situations.

International observers continue to monitor Nigeria's security landscape due to its implications for regional stability and humanitarian concerns in West Africa.
