Blessing CEO Faces Fresh EFCC Trouble as Influencer is Arraigned Over Alleged N13 Million Fake Cancer Fund Scam

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The legal troubles of social media influencer and self-acclaimed relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, popularly known as Blessing CEO, deepened on Wednesday as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned her before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, over a fresh allegation of fraud amounting to N13 million.
The EFCC, through its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, brought the influencer before Justice Yelim Bogoro on a six-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and retaining proceeds allegedly derived from fraudulent activities.
According to the anti-graft agency, the latest charges stem from multiple petitions submitted by individuals and organisations, including the Nigeria Cancer Society, accusing Blessing CEO of soliciting financial assistance from members of the public after allegedly claiming she was battling Stage 4 breast cancer.
Investigations by the EFCC allegedly revealed that the influencer used her social media platforms to appeal for donations, presenting documents to support her claim that she urgently needed funds for medical treatment. However, the commission alleged that the medical documents circulated to the public were falsified.
The prosecution argued that many Nigerians, moved by sympathy and compassion, reportedly contributed money towards what they believed was a genuine medical emergency. The total amount allegedly obtained through the campaign was put at N13,000,000.
The fresh arraignment comes barely a day after the influencer faced another court proceeding involving separate allegations of financial misconduct, further intensifying public attention on the high-profile case.
When the charges were read in court, Blessing CEO pleaded not guilty to all six counts.
Justice Bogoro subsequently adjourned the matter for trial while legal arguments concerning her bail conditions and the continuation of proceedings are expected to follow in subsequent sittings.
The case has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the increasing use of digital platforms to exploit public trust through emotional appeals and unverified fundraising campaigns.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to investigating petitions involving cyber-enabled fraud and warned members of the public to verify fundraising claims before making donations.
