Davido Fires Back at Rarara After Criticism Over World Cup Countdown Concert Outfi

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has responded to popular Hausa singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara following criticism over his appearance at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert.

The controversy began after Davido wore a customized outfit bearing the names of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State during the global event. The singer used the international stage to draw attention to the victims and Nigeria's ongoing security challenges.

However, Rarara, one of Northern Nigeria's most influential musicians, released a video criticizing Davido's action. According to the Hausa singer, highlighting insecurity at such a global event could negatively portray Nigeria before an international audience.

The comments quickly sparked widespread debate on social media, with many Nigerians divided over whether Davido's action was patriotic advocacy or an unnecessary exposure of the country's challenges on the world stage.

Davido Responds in Hausa

In response, Davido took to X (formerly Twitter) and issued a strongly worded statement in Hausa directed at Rarara.

He wrote:

"Da farko, duk wanda yake da kishin Najeriya ba zai yi shiru kan matsalar rashin tsaro da ke addabar ƙasa ba, kuma ba zai hana wasu bayyana damuwarsu a kai ba. Rashin tausayi da fifita son rai ko zama karen siyasa, da fifita son rai fiye da muradun al'umma ba abin alfahari ba ne. Ka kasance mai kishin ƙasarka, ka daina fifita siyasa a kan gaskiya, sannan ka ji tsoron Allah a cikin duk abin da kake yi."

Translated into English, Davido stated that any patriotic Nigerian should not remain silent about insecurity and should not prevent others from speaking about issues affecting the country. He further urged Rarara to place truth and national interest above politics.

Following Davido's response, social media platforms were flooded with reactions from fans, influencers, and commentators across Nigeria.

Many Arewa youths and social media personalities publicly disagreed with Rarara's position, arguing that raising awareness about insecurity should not be viewed as damaging Nigeria's image. Others defended the Hausa singer, insisting that national issues should be handled carefully on international platforms.

The exchange has since become one of the most discussed entertainment and political conversations online, bringing together supporters of both artists.

Davido vs Rarara: More Than Music

The controversy highlights the influence both musicians command in different parts of Nigeria.

Davido is widely recognized as one of Africa's biggest music exports, with a global audience stretching across continents. Rarara, meanwhile, remains one of the most influential Hausa musicians, known for his cultural and political songs that resonate strongly across Northern Nigeria.

As the debate continues, the clash has evolved beyond music into a broader conversation about patriotism, insecurity, freedom of expression, and the role of celebrities in addressing national issues.

The Davido-Rarara exchange has captured national attention because it touches on a sensitive issue affecting millions of Nigerians. While opinions remain divided, the discussion has once again demonstrated the power of public figures to shape conversations on matters of national importance.

Whether Nigerians side with Davido's call for awareness or Rarara's concerns about the country's image, the debate is likely to remain a major talking point in the days ahead.
