Tinubu’s Nominee Kayode Takes Office as Ambassador to U.S.

Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to the United States, Kayode, has officially commenced his diplomatic duties following the presentation of his letter of credence to  U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

The formal ceremony, held on Thursday in Washington, D.C., marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United States. By presenting his credentials, Ambassador is now fully recognized by the U.S. government as Nigeria’s chief envoy, authorized to represent the country’s interests and foster bilateral cooperation.

Kayode who previously served as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), brings years of experience in intelligence, national security, and public service to his new role. His appointment is widely seen as strategic, given the importance of security, trade, and diplomatic engagement between both nations.

His nomination was part of a broader list of ambassadorial appointments submitted to the Nigerian Senate in November 2025 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Following legislative screening and confirmation, kayode was deployed to one of Nigeria’s most critical diplomatic missions.

As ambassador,  is expected to deepen cooperation in areas such as economic development, security collaboration, education, and diaspora engagement. Nigeria and the United States share long-standing ties, with ongoing partnerships in counterterrorism, investment, and democratic governance.

The presentation of credentials ceremony at the White House is a key diplomatic tradition, symbolizing mutual respect and the official acceptance of an ambassador by the host nation. With this milestone, Ambassador kayode begins his tenure at a time when both countries are seeking to expand collaboration on global and regional issues.
