Confusion has engulfed the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election in Taraba North, following conflicting declarations of victory from two different locations — Abuja and Jalingo.
Reports emerging from the APC national headquarters in Abuja suggest that Kabiru Badawaire is being recognized as the winner of the primary election. The situation gained momentum on Friday night when Badawaire publicly announced his victory, thanking supporters across the senatorial district.
In his message, he described the outcome as a victory for the people, emphasizing unity, justice, and progress. He also pledged to deliver effective leadership and move Taraba North forward.
However, in a surprising twist less than 24 hours later, a different result was announced in Jalingo.
The Taraba State APC Chairman, Abubakar Bawa, declared Senator Shuibu Lau as the winner of the same primary election, presenting a completely opposite outcome and intensifying confusion within the party.
The contradictory announcements have left party members and political observers questioning the authenticity of the results and the credibility of the electoral process.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the APC national leadership is reviewing documents related to the conduct of the primary election. This move suggests that the party may take further steps to investigate the situation or possibly overturn one of the outcomes.
The incident highlights ongoing internal divisions within the APC in Taraba State, raising concerns ahead of the 2027 general elections where party unity will be critical.
For now, Taraba North remains in political uncertainty — faced with a rare scenario of one election producing two winners, and no official resolution yet in sight.
