Nigeria Is Losing Its Humanity — Jonathan Warns as Killings Become Normal

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has raised serious concerns over the rising wave of violence in Nigeria, warning that citizens are gradually becoming desensitised to killings and blood across the country.

Speaking at a church gathering in Abuja, Jonathan lamented that incidents which once shocked the nation are now being treated as routine occurrences. According to him, the increasing acceptance of such tragedies reflects a dangerous decline in the nation’s moral consciousness.

He noted that communities continue to suffer devastating attacks, with lives lost and properties destroyed, yet public reaction has significantly weakened. This, he said, signals that the country is losing its sense of empathy and shared humanity.
Jonathan emphasized the urgent need for moral and spiritual renewal, calling on religious leaders, government officials, and citizens to work together in restoring the nation’s values. He stressed that promoting peace, justice, and integrity is critical to reversing the current trend.

The former president also highlighted the influence of modern technology and social media, warning that they often amplify negative behaviors while downplaying positive values.

His remarks come at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with widespread insecurity, including killings, kidnappings, and communal clashes in various regions
