Mexico to Host Iran During 2026 World Cup Amid U.S. Visa Concerns

Mexico has confirmed plans to host Iran national football team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following challenges related to visa access into the United States.

President Claudia Sheinbaum disclosed that Iran’s squad will now be based in Tijuana, a Mexican border city, instead of their initially proposed camp in the United States. The move comes after concerns over potential visa restrictions and entry complications for Iranian players and officials.

Despite relocating their training base, Iran will still participate in scheduled group-stage matches within the United States, in line with the tournament’s hosting structure. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by Mexico, United States, and Canada.

The decision highlights ongoing logistical and diplomatic considerations ahead of the global tournament, as organizers work to ensure all qualified teams can compete without disruption.
