Global Hantavirus Fear Grows As NCDC Issues Important Update For Nigerians

NCDC Declares No Hantavirus In Nigeria, Says It Is Monitoring Global Situation

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has assured Nigerians that there is currently no confirmed case of Hantavirus in the country despite rising global concerns over the disease.

The agency disclosed this in a recent public health advisory while reacting to reports of Hantavirus cases recorded in some countries around the world. According to the NCDC, Nigeria remains free from the virus, but health authorities are actively monitoring the global situation to prevent any possible outbreak.

Hantavirus is a rare but dangerous disease mainly spread through contact with infected rodents, especially through their urine, droppings, or saliva. Health experts say symptoms may include fever, headache, body weakness, fatigue, abdominal pain, and in severe cases, breathing difficulties.

The NCDC urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading panic or misinformation on social media. The agency also advised citizens to maintain proper hygiene, keep their environment clean, cover food items properly, and prevent rodent infestation in homes and workplaces.

Officials emphasized that surveillance systems across Nigeria have been strengthened to quickly detect and respond to any suspected case if necessary.

The agency further encouraged Nigerians to rely only on verified information from health authorities and continue practicing healthy environmental sanitation habits.

Meanwhile, health experts say the risk of infection in Nigeria remains low at the moment, but public awareness and preventive measures remain important as global monitoring continues.
