The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed as false a viral list circulating on social media claiming that the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results of 50 secondary schools were withheld over examination malpractice.
In a statement, the examination body described the document as fake, urging students, parents, school authorities, and the general public to disregard it.
According to WAEC, the purported list did not originate from the Council and was not issued through any of its official communication channels. The Council emphasized that all verified information regarding examinations and results would only be released through its official platforms and accredited media organisations.
WAEC also cautioned the public against relying on unverified social media posts, warning that the spread of false information could create unnecessary panic among candidates and their families.
The Council further clarified that it does not notify schools of malpractice investigations through unofficial documents or social media messages. It advised candidates and school administrators to ignore the viral publication and await only authentic announcements from WAEC.
The development comes amid heightened public attention following the release of the 2026 WASSCE results, with misinformation spreading rapidly across various social media platforms. Education stakeholders have therefore urged candidates to verify information directly from WAEC before sharing or acting on any reports.
WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity and credibility of its examinations while warning that those behind the circulation of fake notices could face legal consequences.
